Korea Tourist Visa

A tourist visa for the Republic of Korea is issued for purposes of tourism, leisure, or visiting relatives.

The visa is generally valid for a period of up to 90 days from the date of issuance for single or double entry, provided that the travel dates fall within the approved validity period.

For travelers requiring extended flexibility, multiple-entry tourist visas may be granted with a validity ranging from one to five years.

K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization)

The Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) is an online travel permit introduced by the Government of the Republic of Korea to facilitate entry for short-term visitors from visa-waiver countries. It is designed for those traveling to Korea for tourism, business meetings, conferences, or family visits, without the need for a traditional visa.

Once approved, the K-ETA is generally valid for 2 years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. During this period, travelers may enter Korea multiple times, with each stay typically limited to up to 90 days, although this duration may vary depending on agreements between Korea and the traveler’s country of nationality.

The K-ETA offers several advantages, including convenience, speed, and the elimination of embassy or consulate visits. However, it is important to note that even with a valid K-ETA, final admission to Korea remains at the discretion of immigration authorities upon arrival.

I am Filipino. Do I need a visa to enter Korea?

Filipino citizens need a tourist visa to enter South Korea for tourism, leisure, or visiting relatives. The K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is not available for the Philippines, since it only applies to nationals of countries that have a visa-waiver agreement with Korea.

Do I need a visa even if I am just transiting Korea?

In general yes, But it’s always better to confirm direclty with the Korea Embassy of your country.

I am not Filipino. Can I apply for a visa in Japan?

The Embassy and all Consulates accept applications from all people who ordinarily reside in Japan (Filipino and foreigners). If you are not Filipino, but your usual residence is in Japan, you must follow the same process as Filipinos and apply for the visa.

If, however, you are a foreign national who does not reside in Japan and plan to apply for a visa during your visit to Japan, we recommend that you apply for your visa in your country of origin or your country of usual residence. If you decide to apply for your visa in Japan, please note that there is no guarantee that your visa will be approved, as consular authorities may find themselves in a position where they will not be able to properly assess your application.

If I am not a Filipino citizen or if I am Filipino but also have another nationality, will I still have to pay the additional visa fees?

It depends. If you intend to travel using your Filipino passport, then the fees have to be paid. If, however, you are traveling on a valid passport from the other country of which you are also a national, then these additional fees may differ. Please refer to the information for your country. Please also note the information provided below regarding applicants from other countries who wish to apply for Korea visas in Japan.
